De Stijl inspired

Hi all,
It's the weekend! YAY! And I now have two followers!! Woo, thanks guys! :) It has been quite a week and I'm very pleased to have a day off on Saturday. My friends keep having birthdays so tomorrow I'll be going to the beach and then to see a band in town to celebrate a friend turning 20.
Today's manicure was inspired by the work of well-known Cubist/De Stijl painter Piet Mondrian.

I used the same three Orly colours as I did for marbling in my last post. For the base I used BYS White Matte.
Mondrian usually uses primary colours in his work but I didn't have the shades I wanted so went for something a bit different.

Please feel free to post comments or ask questions! I'd be more than happy to answer :)

Its all down hill from here

Happy Wednesday! Only two more days until the weekend!
I saw the OPI Texas collection today! To be honest, I wasn't that impressed with pictures of it I had seen, but some of them were really nice in reality. I particularly like "Austin-tatious Turquoise", "Don't Mess With OPI" and "Guy Meets Gal-veston". They're defo on my "to buy" list.
Today, I wanted to share my first attempt at water marbling. I learnt how to by watching youtube clips and doing a lot of experimenting!

It took so long to get it right but I got so excited when it worked. I used the same colours as my shatter mani from a few days ago. Orly "Lemonade"(yellow) "Lollipop"(purple/pink) and "Gumdrop"(green).

The Green Monster

Hello!! It has been a busy week so haven't posted as much as I would have liked to. Two of my friends had birthdays, I went camping, saw my friend's brother's band play, caught up with people I don't see very often, worked, and generally just had a good week! All these antics don't leave a lot of time for blogging though.

Here is one of my more recent manicures..

I used Orly "Green with Envy" for the base and Bundle Monster plate 11 with white Konad special polish for the stamp. I like this design, it's a vintage spin on a classic french mani with a modern kick :P

Happy Valentines Day!

Happy Valentines Day everyone!! Although I think this post will prob be put up after midnight it still counts as V-day. I had a really busy day today. Usually I work nights, which works well around uni and I can still ahve a bit of a life during the day. Today, however, I was called in early and ended up doing a double shift...wasn't so fun. By the time I got home I was so tired but I really wanted to do a new mani, plus my OPI Black Shatter arrived today!! YAAAY! It is so awesome, I love it so much. This is what I came up with...

I used Orly "Top2Bottom" as a base, Orly "Lemonade", Orly "Gumdrop" and Orly "Lollipop" for the stripes, OPI Black Shatter and Orly "Sec'n'Dry" as a top coat. I love "Sec'n'Dry" topcoat because it drys multiple layors of nailpolish in a couple of minutes. There is nothing worse than having to wait 20-30 minutes for a manicure to dry properly!

Here is what my nails looked like before adding the Black Shatter over the top. I really like this colour combo and they look real cool marbled together too!

Fueling the Addiction

Yesterday I added two more polishes to my ever expanding collection and I LOOOOVE them!!
Both the polishes are China Glaze and are full of glitter for a true sparkle overload.

The polish on the left is China Glaze "Atlantis" and on the right China Glaze "Bad Kitty".
"Bad Kitty" looks a bit orange in the photo but it is actually hot pink.

Being a Classical History major at uni, I naturally love anything that refers to Classics so I had to get "Atlantis". The myth is that the island of Atlantis was a great empire where brave and virtuous people lived, but after a time they began to love themselves and power more than the gods so they were punished and an earthquake sank the island into the sea. Dum dum daaaa. Anyway, the nail polish is a beautiful blue-green with silver glitter. I can't wait to use it!

I am also waiting for another nail polish to arrive in the mail and I am SO excited!! I found it on http://www.trademe.co.nz/ (NZ version of ebay) like many of the other polishes i buy (a lot of good American nail polish brands arn't avaliable here so I have to buy them off people who import them). The polish I'm waiting on is OPI Black Shatter, which is part of OPI's Katy Perry inspired range of colours. I cannot wait for it to arrive! To be honest, I was a bit disappointed when it didn't arrive this morning. I guess I will just have to wait until Monday. It can be a wee pressie to myself for Valentines Day <3

Welcome!!

Okay, I have to admit something! This is my first attempt at writing a blog and I am really not sure how it is going to turn out. Right now, just hoping for the best!

With this blog I hope to share with whoever wants to read/see, manicures I have done and other random things that could be of interest.

I thought I would start things off by posting a photo of my first mani that got me interested in nail art..

Please let me know if you would like to know which colours were used here or if you have any other questions.
This mani was inspired by a picture I found on google and it was about a week before Christmas of 2010 so I thought it was an appropriate time of year to have a present mani.

Alright, thats that. And so it begins...
